In a shocking turn of events, music moguls Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) and Sean "Diddy" Combs face allegations of rape in a civil lawsuit involving a 13-year-old girl, identified only as "Jane Doe." The claims date back to 2000, from an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
The lawsuit, initially filed in October against Combs in the Southern District of New York, was refiled Sunday to include Carter. The accuser claims she was lured to the party by a limousine driver, given a drink that left her disoriented, and then assaulted by both men.
In a fiery statement, Carter dismissed the allegations as "idiotic," calling out what he perceives as a pattern of "shameless publicity stunts" aimed at extracting money from celebrities. "We protect children. These claims are heinous, and my heartbreak is for my family, who must now endure the cruel fallout of these baseless accusations," he said.
Combs’ legal team echoed the sentiment, labeling the lawsuits against him as "conspiracy theories" designed to defame and extort. Meanwhile, Combs remains incarcerated, facing separate criminal charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, with a trial scheduled for May 2024.
The accuser seeks damages under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act. As the lawsuit develops, questions surrounding accountability, exploitation, and justice loom in the entertainment industry.
